About The Position

The Department of Environmental Conservation seeks an Environmental Analyst for the Rutland North Regional Office to review projects in the wastewater system and potable water supply program. These positions work relatively independently but will be an integral part of an experienced team. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with engineering consultants, licensed designers, and the public to permit soil-based wastewater systems and potable water supplies. The Department of Environmental Conservation has made changes to the minimum qualifications to the Environmental Analyst job series in an effort to ensure equitable opportunities and broaden the base for qualified applicants within this job. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, possesses general or specific knowledge in soil science, hydrogeology, geology, engineering practices, and principles relating to the design and construction of wastewater systems and water supplies, demonstrates excellent communication and technical writing skills, is comfortable communicating with consultants, landowners or their representatives, municipal officials, other DEC staff, and our counterparts from other states, and performs well at the individual level, as well as in a team-based environment.

Requirements

• Master's degree or higher in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND two (2) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.
• Bachelor's degree in a biological-life or physical science, engineering, a social science, data science, or an environmental or natural resources field AND three (3) or more years of experience in a natural resources field.
• Six (6) years or more of experience in an engineering, environmental, social science, data science, or natural resources field.

Responsibilities

• Implementing wastewater system and potable water supply permitting programs for building and land development projects.
• Performing site visits, on-site review of soils, and review of engineering plans.
• Issuing permits, jurisdictional decisions and monitoring compliance with Rules.
• Providing documentation and support for enforcement actions.
• Providing information, technical assistance, and assistance with educational training.
• Collaborating with other sections in the division, other DEC divisions, and other state and federal government entities.
