Requirements

  • MD or Ph.D. in relevant field
  • No previous experience required

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience or related field.
  • Demonstrated research experience in neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, neuroimmune interactions, experimental model development, and collaborative scientific projects.
  • Experience in data analytics, bioinformatics, grant writing, and scientific communication.
  • Advanced proficiency in experimental design, molecular and cellular techniques, and data analysis.
  • Expertise in neuroscience research, neuroimmune interactions, and collaborative research.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and sound judgment in critical decision-making.
  • Commitment to mentorship, training, and professional development.
  • Skilled in laboratory management, compliance, and technical troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Recruits and maintains patients in clinical research protocols.
  • Provides and follows best practices in clinical and translational research performance.
  • Processes and analyzes results and data.
  • Communicates results to the scientific community via published papers and agency reports.
  • Presents ongoing work and findings to colleagues at academic conferences, summarizing the nature of the research, methodology, and results.
  • Stays abreast of the work of other scientists within the department and scientific community.
  • Attends conferences and reads relevant journals.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Design, conduct, and analyze experiments investigating neuroimmune interactions, proteinopathies (TDP-43, tau, amyloid), and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms.
  • Develop and utilize animal models (mouse, transgenic colonies) and cellular models for disease mechanism studies and therapeutic target validation.
  • Apply spatial transcriptomics, spatial proteomics, and advanced imaging techniques to postmortem brain tissues.
  • Integrate and analyze complex datasets using data analytics, bioinformatics, and statistical software (e.g., FSL, FreeSurfer, Linux commands).
  • Conduct meta-analytical extraction, data entry, and analysis for neurocognitive and neuroimaging studies.
  • Draft, edit, and submit scientific research grants, progress reports, and manuscripts for federal and foundation sponsors.
  • Author peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, and agency reports; present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with principal investigators, research scientists, and external partners on multi-institutional projects.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in experimental techniques, data analysis, and scientific writing.
  • Apply advanced techniques in immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, protein extraction, Western blotting, and behavioral testing.
  • Manage laboratory operations, including ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
