POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, servicing and repairing all major brands of commercial HVAC equipment. Work may include commissioning, start up, adjusting, repair, modification and/or replacement of HVAC equipment including inter-connecting piping, electrical and control wiring.

Requirements

  • Technical school graduate or successful completion of an HVAC Apprenticeship program
  • HVAC Journeyman license
  • Universal CFC Certification
  • Minimum of 5 - years commercial HVAC service experience at the Journeyman level
  • Factory training on various manufacturers equipment and systems as well as DDC systems
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of HVAC fundamentals to include thermodynamics and physchrometrics, basic electricity, ability to perform electrical, controls and refrigerant circuit diagnostics
  • Detailed knowledge of HVAC systems that incorporate Direct Digital Control Systems as part of a computer-based energy management system
  • Maintenance, repair and diagnostic proficiency on a wide variety of commercial HVAC equipment with cooling capacities in excess of 25-tons such as gas/electric package units, split systems, heat pumps, single and multi-zone ductless split systems and various sizes of pumps and fans
  • Maintenance, repair and diagnostic proficiency on VAV terminal units, VRF systems, VFD’s, large commercial and industrial boilers, industrial gas and oil burners, all types of data center precision cooling units, commercial humidifiers and dehumidifiers, cooling towers all types of air and water-cooled chillers
  • Proficiency in the diagnostics, repair and installation of all types of compressors such as reciprocating, scroll, digital scroll, semi-hermetic and screw
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment needed to perform service and repair on HVAC equipment and systems
  • Ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents
  • Able to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of solutions and approaches to problems
  • Able to perform mathematical calculations
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Daily travel to multiple job locations
  • May be subjected to inclement weather and hazardous working conditions
  • Work weekend or night-time duty as needed to include on-call duty

Responsibilities

  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and electrical schematics, blueprints and/or technical manuals to perform necessary work
  • Conducts preventive maintenance, service, repair and troubleshooting of commercial HVAC equipment and systems
  • Performs installation of HVAC equipment
  • Accurately estimates time and material requirements for repairs and replacements
  • Maintains a complete set of necessary tools applicable to the trade and is proficient in their use
  • Follows all safety practices and adheres to all safety related policies
  • Responsible for company assets used performing HVAC service work
  • Holds a valid driver’s license
  • Makes purchases at local supply houses in accordance with company policy
  • Completes neat, detailed and accurate service reports and submits them in a timely manner
  • Experienced working independently while performing HVAC service work
  • Routinely interacts with clients
  • Conducts self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency
  • Provides technical assistance when needed to Level 1 & Level 2 technicians
