About The Position

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking an Entry-Level Guidance, Navigation & Control Engineer to join the Flying Qualities and Autonomy Technology Group as part of the Vertical Lift Division located in Ridley Park, PA. This role participates in all phases of design and testing, and supports all of Boeing’s vertical lift aircraft, including the Apache, AH-6, Chinook, MH-139, V-22 Osprey, and other developmental aircraft.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
  • Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements. A “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.62 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience, activities, and coursework which demonstrate an interest in Flight Vehicle Dynamics, Aircraft Stability & Control, Control Law Design, Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC), Simulation and Modeling, and/or Aeromechanics Engineering
  • Coursework and experience in linear stability analysis including aero-servo-elastic effects.
  • Completion of rotorcraft-centric engineering courses, or other engineering-level exposure to rotorcraft concepts and characteristics.
  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, with coursework in control systems and flight-related concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze air vehicle stability and control characteristics to ensure acceptable handling qualities in compliance with specifications.
  • Apply control theory to the design of control laws that achieve desired characteristics for dynamic control response, gust or disturbance rejection, system failure robustness, and loads considerations.
  • Develop and validate linear and nonlinear mathematical analysis and simulation models of air vehicle and subsystems using theory and test data, including wind tunnel and flight test.
  • Support the design of new and modified rotorcraft configurations from a stability, control, and handling qualities perspective.
  • Perform wind tunnel testing, pilot-in-the-loop flight simulation, hardware in the loop laboratory testing, and flight testing in support of vehicle design and analysis.
  • Apply tools such as Matlab/Simulink and other modern and legacy programming languages in both Windows and Unix-based environments.
  • Collaborate with test pilots and with engineers in other engineering disciplines such as aerodynamics, dynamics, avionics systems, structural design, and crew systems design, to optimize vehicle level characteristics.
