About The Position

S&ME is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic entry-level Geotechnical Professional to join our Raleigh, North Carolina team. This role supports a wide range of civil, geotechnical, and environmental projects, offering a strong mix of fieldwork and office-based analysis. You will gain real-world experience through subsurface exploration, environmental investigations, construction support, and technical reporting, learning from licensed Engineers and/or Geologists.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, Mining, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Passion for Geotechnical solutions with a strong interest in field and analytical work
Basic technical writing skills at the college level
Willingness and ability to perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to walk over rough, uneven terrain and stand (potentially up to 12 hours a day)
Ability to routinely lift and carry 40-50lbs (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
Willingness to work outside of normal business hours and travel (typically out-of-town and/or overnight) as project needs arise
Must comply with Fleet Management, Substance Policy, and Reference Check requirements.
Must have valid employment eligibility (I-9).

Responsibilities

Conduct fieldwork including soil borings, drilling oversight, monitoring well installation, soil and rock classification, in-situ testing, and collection of soil, groundwater, and gas samples at project sites.
Analyze subsurface conditions, support laboratory testing programs, interpret geological and geotechnical data, and assist with engineering and environmental evaluations.
Prepare data tables, figures, and graphical presentations; compare results to state and federal regulatory standards; and assist in writing clear, well-organized technical reports.
Perform construction and environmental inspections, document site conditions, and ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with drilling contractors, laboratories, vendors, and project team members, and communicate effectively with internal staff and external clients.
