About The Position

This role provides executive leadership for research computing operations, infrastructure, and services. The position involves leading organizational transformation, cultural improvements, and change management initiatives. The individual will supervise managers, technical professionals, and student staff, and will be responsible for evaluating departmental operations, staffing, technology infrastructure, and active projects. Key duties include establishing governance frameworks, operational procedures, and performance accountability, as well as improving IT service delivery, service desk processes, reporting, and customer satisfaction. The role also entails developing departmental priorities, performance metrics, budgets, and resource allocation strategies, while ensuring compliance with university policies, security standards, and regulatory requirements. Identifying operational challenges and implementing structural improvements, providing executive reports, strategic recommendations, and organizational assessments are also core functions. Additionally, the position involves mentoring employees, supporting professional development, strengthening team collaboration, and developing succession plans and transition documentation for the permanent Director.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience leading organizational transformation, change management, and service delivery optimization.
  • 8+ years of experience leading large, complex technology projects.
  • 8+ years of experience with personnel management, coaching, and performance accountability.
  • Completed Bachelor's degree (mandatory).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with research cyberinfrastructure, high-performance computing (HPC), high-speed storage, and networking technologies.
  • Experience implementing governance and operational maturity frameworks.
  • Experience managing organizational change in higher education.
  • Master's degree in Science, Technology, or a related field.
  • ITIL knowledge or certification.
  • Cloud infrastructure experience with AWS and/or Azure.
  • AI infrastructure experience with AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud.
  • Carpentries Instructor experience or certification.
  • Training in HPC technologies, including Slurm and InfiniBand.
