2027 Enterprise Modeling and Simulation Graduate Intern

The Aerospace Corporation•El Segundo, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

The Enterprise Effects Division (EED) integrates The Aerospace Corporation’s strategic capabilities across the national space enterprise. Within EED, the Cross-Mission Effectiveness Department (CMED) leads the integration and application of modeling and simulation capabilities and modern analysis workflows to support end-to-end effects-chain analysis and space and space-enabled campaign modeling. The intern will contribute to modeling, simulation, and analysis of space-, air-, and ground-based systems of systems, assessing architecture and concept-of-operations performance in nominal and contested environments. Focus areas include agent-based modeling, red-versus-blue simulations, military utility and capability drawdown, kill-chain effectiveness, enterprise architecture resiliency, and command-and-control evaluation. Interns work on multiple team projects with mentors, full-time staff, and other interns, applying existing skills and developing their modeling, simulation, and analysis knowledge. Training and mentorship will be provided. The selected candidate must work full-time on-site at a facility in Colorado Springs, Colorado; El Segundo, California; or Chantilly, Virginia. The internship requires at least 10 weeks of full-time availability outside the university term, followed by a return to a full-time master's or PhD program. Temporary housing assistance is not available.

Requirements

  • Be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a full-time student in an accredited college or university master's or PhD program in engineering (aerospace, astronautical, mechanical, or software), computer science, physics, operations research, or a related discipline.
  • Complete a bachelor's degree by the internship start date.
  • Be available to work full-time for at least 10 weeks outside the university term and return to a master's or PhD program full-time after the internship.
  • Have programming skills in a language such as Python, C++, or MATLAB.
  • Demonstrate personal accountability, a desire to learn, and the ability to manage several simultaneous tasks.
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills and work well in a team environment.
  • Have organizational, time-management, and project-management skills.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Have interpersonal skills to coordinate efforts and work with internal and external organizations.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required to obtain one.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with a toolkit or framework such as AFSIM, STK, or GMAT.
  • Direct experience with agent-based modeling, red-versus-blue simulations, military utility and capability drawdown, kill-chain effectiveness, enterprise architecture resiliency, or command-and-control.
