About The Position

The Enterprise Data Architect is an experienced and forward-thinking position designed to implement institutional data architecture. This role will be central to organizing our campus-wide data ecosystem and preparing the College for an enterprise data repository such as a data warehouse or data lake. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in designing scalable data systems, enabling cross-functional data access, and supporting analytics and decision-making across the institution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field is required
  • 7+ years of experience in data architecture, enterprise data modeling, or a related field
  • Deep understanding of data architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF , DAMA - DMBOK )
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, Snowflake)
  • Familiarity with Ellucian Banner, Workday, or similar ERP / SIS systems
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
  • To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform intermediate skills using the Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s preferred in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or related field.
  • Experience with ETL / ELT processes and tools (e.g., Informatica, Talend, dbt, Fivetran)
  • Understanding of data governance platforms (e.g., Collibra, Alation)
  • Knowledge of data security and compliance ( FERPA , HIPAA , GDPR )
  • Experience in higher education strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assess current state of data across departments and systems (e.g., Banner, Workday, Canvas, Salesforce)
  • Design and document enterprise data architecture, including target state diagrams, data flows, and integration models
  • Develop strategies for implementing a data warehouse, data lake, or hybrid model based on institutional needs
  • Define and promote data standards, metadata management, and governance principles
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across IT, Institutional Research, Enrollment, Finance, and Academic Affairs to understand reporting and analytics needs
  • Partner with vendors or consultants as needed to evaluate and deploy data infrastructure platforms
  • Work closely with data engineers, analysts, and business units to ensure alignment with architecture
  • Develop data security and privacy strategies aligned with FERPA and institutional policy
