About The Position

The Enterprise Architect translates business strategy into an integrated enterprise technology direction. The role defines and governs target architecture across business capabilities, applications, data, integration, infrastructure, cloud, identity, cybersecurity, and resilience. The Enterprise Architect reduces complexity and technical debt, guides major technology investments, and ensures project and vendor decisions advance a coherent, secure, resilient, and cost-effective target state. Success requires influence across business and technology leadership, practical governance, and measurable progress in modernization, platform reuse, risk reduction, and system retirement. This is an enterprise decision-making role, not solely a documentation or solution-design position. The position is hybrid, blending in-office and remote working, and is full time. Salary is $140,000–$190,000 based on experience and credentials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, business, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 10 or more years of progressive technology experience, including significant responsibility for enterprise architecture, solution architecture, technology strategy, or large-scale transformation.
  • Demonstrated experience developing target architectures and multi-year roadmaps in a complex, regulated, or highly integrated enterprise environment.
  • Strong knowledge of application architecture, integration, APIs, data platforms, cloud, infrastructure, identity, cybersecurity, resilience, and technology lifecycle management.
  • Experience governing major solution and vendor decisions using business value, risk, cost, scalability, and operational sustainability criteria.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical decisions in clear business terms and influence executives, business leaders, engineers, delivery teams, and vendors without relying solely on positional authority.
  • Strong analytical, facilitation, conflict-resolution, written communication, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized task management.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve difficult and often complex problems or situations.
  • Ability to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties.
  • Complete annual compliance and information security training.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in technology, business administration, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience in financial services, banking, credit unions, insurance, healthcare, or another regulated industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of architecture frameworks and practices such as TOGAF, capability-based planning, domain-driven design, architecture decision records, and technology portfolio management preferred.
  • Relevant certifications in enterprise architecture, cloud, cybersecurity, data, or technology governance preferred.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, core-platform modernization, cloud transformation, data modernization, or enterprise integration programs preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with executive, business, and technology leaders to translate strategic priorities, growth objectives, operating-model changes, regulatory obligations, and member or customer needs into enterprise capabilities and technology roadmaps.
  • Assess gaps between the current environment and the required future state, including business, operating, data, application, security, integration, and infrastructure impacts.
  • Provide leadership with architectural recommendations, tradeoffs, dependencies, sequencing, costs, risks, and decision points.
  • Develop and maintain current-state, transition-state, and target-state architecture across business, application, data, integration, infrastructure, cloud, identity, security, and resilience domains.
  • Maintain business-capability maps, application and technology inventories, integration and data-flow maps, reference architectures, and technology lifecycle standards; keep these artifacts actionable and connected to funded initiatives and business outcomes.
  • Define architecture principles, approved platforms, reusable patterns, integration methods, data standards, security guardrails, and cloud practices.
  • Lead or support the Architecture Review Board and establish review requirements for material technology changes and enterprise-impacting initiatives.
  • Review major initiatives, solution designs, vendor selections, and exceptions for alignment with enterprise strategy and standards.
  • Document architectural decisions, risks, exceptions, remediation commitments, accountable owners, and expiration dates.
  • Create and coordinate multi-year modernization roadmaps across business portfolios, delivery teams, technology domains, and major vendors, sequencing investments based on business value, risk, dependencies, funding, and organizational capacity.
  • Identify redundant, obsolete, unsupported, or overly complex technologies, applications, capabilities, integrations, and data, and establish consolidation, remediation, or retirement plans.
  • Promote reuse, standardization, platform consolidation, API enablement, and disciplined decommissioning; maintain an enterprise technical-debt register and provide leadership with transparent risk and investment recommendations.
  • Define enterprise patterns for APIs, events, messaging, batch processing, data exchange, and third-party connectivity to ensure secure, reliable, consistent system information exchange aligned with enterprise data-governance requirements.
  • Partner with data leaders to align architecture with authoritative data sources, metadata, lineage, quality, privacy, and analytics objectives.
  • Evaluate build, buy, partner, and retire options and provide architecture input to portfolio prioritization and budgeting.
  • Assess proposed solutions for strategic fit, scalability, interoperability, security, resilience, implementation risk, total cost of ownership, vendor concentration, and exit strategy.
  • Participate in requests for proposal, due diligence, contract reviews, proofs of concept, and major technology negotiations as appropriate.
  • Ensure privacy, cybersecurity, identity, availability, disaster recovery, records retention, accessibility, and regulatory requirements are incorporated into architecture decisions.
  • Partner with cybersecurity, risk, legal, compliance, audit, and business continuity teams to identify and mitigate architectural risk; escalate designs or exceptions that create unacceptable operational, security, compliance, financial, or reputational exposure.
  • Coordinate solution, application, data, integration, security, infrastructure, cloud, and domain architects to resolve cross-domain issues and coach delivery teams and architects on enterprise patterns while enabling appropriate speed and autonomy.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies through structured research, experimentation, and value-and-risk assessments; recommend adoption, containment, or avoidance.
  • Approve designs that conform to established standards and delegated governance authority; reject or escalate designs creating unacceptable enterprise risk, duplication, complexity, or misalignment.
  • Grant time-bound exceptions within delegated authority when the business rationale, risk owner, compensating controls, remediation plan, and expiration date are documented.
  • Recommend platform consolidation, investment sequencing, vendor changes, and system retirement. Final funding and formal risk-acceptance authority remain with the designated executive or governance body.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting the area of expertise and attend educational events to increase professional knowledge.
  • Complete annual compliance and information security training to understand employees’ role in maintaining effective compliance and security programs.
