About The Position

Workday is seeking a Senior or Principal Enterprise Architect with deep technology and security expertise to join their Enterprise Architect team. This role will serve as a strategic partner to Sales, engaging with customers and prospects to demonstrate how Workday's platform can enhance their management of people, money, and processes. The position specifically supports SLED (State, Local, Higher Education) and Healthcare teams in North America, focusing on Workday's role as an enabler of digital and AI transformation and its ability to simplify technology footprints for business impact. The Enterprise Architect will act as a trusted advisor, translating complex technical and risk concepts into clear business outcomes for diverse stakeholders. Key areas of focus include Workday's SaaS architecture, with an emphasis on security, cybersecurity controls, identity and access management, data protection, disaster recovery, business continuity, and data privacy and compliance (HIPAA, PHI/PII). The role also involves articulating how Workday's integration frameworks, analytics, and AI/ML capabilities support secure, compliant, and resilient operations, and delivering presentations that highlight how Workday's architecture strengthens security posture and reduces risk. Additionally, the role involves building relationships with C-level executives and mentoring others. This is a primarily remote role with travel up to 40-50%.

Requirements

  • Sr Enterprise Architect: 5+ years Enterprise Software Solution Consulting experience OR hands-on experience designing, implementing, or supporting enterprise software solutions (SaaS preferred).
  • Sr Enterprise Architect: 5+ years’ experience delivering compelling presentations and demos to executive and technical audiences, both in person and in virtual meetings, clearly communicating technical concepts, security considerations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Sr Enterprise Architect: 5+ years applied working knowledge of cloud architecture and security (e.g., identity and access management, encryption, network security, logging/monitoring), reporting/analytics, and integration standards (APIs, web services, event-driven architectures).
  • Sr Enterprise Architect: Experience working with customers in regulated environments such as healthcare (including HIPAA and PHI), higher education, and/or state and local government, with the ability to speak credibly about risk, compliance, security, architecture, and governance.
  • Principal Enterprise Architect: 7+ years Enterprise Software Solution Consulting experience OR hands-on experience designing, implementing, or supporting enterprise software solutions (SaaS preferred).
  • Principal Enterprise Architect: 7+ years’ experience delivering compelling presentations and demos to executive and technical audiences, both in person and in virtual meetings, clearly communicating technical concepts, security considerations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Principal Enterprise Architect: 7+ years applied working knowledge of cloud architecture and security (e.g., identity and access management, encryption, network security, logging/monitoring), reporting/analytics, and integration standards (APIs, web services, event-driven architectures).
  • Principal Enterprise Architect: Experience working with customers in regulated environments such as healthcare (including HIPAA and PHI), higher education, and/or state and local government, with the ability to speak credibly about risk, compliance, security, architecture, and governance.
  • Deep understanding of enterprise technology and cloud security.
  • Ability to deliver compelling presentations and demonstrations with confidence, while actively listening and tailoring the message to the customer’s industry, regulatory environment, and security priorities.
  • A strong point of view on architecture and security and can influence decision making at executive and technical levels.
  • Familiarity with presales cycles as it relates to SaaS sales.
  • Demonstrated multi-pillar solution and product knowledge (e.g., HCM, Financials, Student, Planning, or similar enterprise platforms) and how they integrate into broader enterprise landscapes.
  • Executive presence and relationship-building skills, with a track record of becoming a trusted advisor to CIO, CISO, CTO, and business leadership.
  • Highly collaborative and team-oriented, able to partner effectively with Sales, Services, Customer Success, Security & Compliance, and Value Management.
  • Innovative and adaptable, comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, learning new technologies (including AI/ML), and tailoring architectural approaches to different industries and regulatory requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, CISM, AAISM are a bonus.

Responsibilities

  • Leading strategic, complex platform and security-focused opportunities, including architecting solution strategies that address cybersecurity, data privacy, HIPAA and PHI protections, and disaster recovery / business continuity requirements.
  • Delivering relevant technical product presentations, demonstrations, workshops, and executive briefings that highlight Workday’s secure SaaS architecture, zero-trust principles, encryption, access controls, logging/monitoring, and compliance capabilities across healthcare, higher education, and public sector environments.
  • Identifying and analyzing key systems, dependencies, and integration points within the overall solution landscape, developing solution maps that account for secure data flows, identity management, and protection of regulated data (e.g., PHI and PII).
  • Providing expert guidance to sales and deal teams on how to differentiate with Workday technology from a security, resiliency, and compliance perspective, including alignment to relevant industry standards and frameworks.
  • Collaborating across functional groups (Value Management, Services, Customer Success Management, Security & Compliance) to design customer experiences and solution approaches that build long-term, sustainable, and trusted relationships.
  • Mentoring others by sharing best practices and repeatable patterns from customer engagements.
