About The Position

AimWell Financial is seeking a seasoned Enrolled Agent (EA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to prepare tax returns for clients. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys tax work but desires a more flexible and sustainable model than traditional accounting. It suits semi-retired professionals, parents seeking flexible scheduling, or independent practitioners with available capacity. The workload is dynamic, initially involving a few returns with potential for significant growth. This position is crucial for establishing processes, workflows, and best practices for a new tax preparation service. While located in St. Petersburg, FL, highly qualified remote candidates may be considered.

Requirements

  • Active EA or CPA designation in good standing.
  • 10+ years of tax preparation experience, with significant experience independently preparing individual income tax returns.
  • Strong technical knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Proficiency with modern tax preparation and workflow software.
  • Proficiency with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Microsoft Copilot to improve productivity, research efficiency, and client communication.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of professionalism and accountability; takes ownership of producing accurate, high-quality work.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare federal and state individual income tax returns with accuracy and professional judgment.
  • Manage tax preparation workflow and deadlines across a growing client base.
  • Review client tax documentation, identify missing information, and communicate directly with clients regarding tax-related questions and requests.
  • Assist clients with IRS and state tax notices as needed, and conduct ongoing tax projections as the practice requires.
  • Assist in developing efficient procedures, workflows, and best practices for a new tax preparation practice.
  • Help evaluate tax software, workflow tools, and operational processes as the service is established.
  • Collaborate with financial planners regarding client tax considerations and identify tax planning opportunities to communicate to the advisory team when appropriate.
