About The Position

This position is responsible for instructing safe and effective enrichment classes for the YMCA of the Suncoast Hernando County Branch's homeschool program. The program is designed for youth ages 6-12 and operates with mid-day shifts from Monday through Friday. The instructor will follow YMCA of the USA teaching guidelines, deliver instructional content, and create a nurturing and safe environment. This includes reporting suspicious activity, maintaining supplies and facilities, exercising sound judgment regarding class safety, and following emergency procedures. The role also involves positive public relations with members and attending staff meetings and trainings.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to teach a safe and effective class.
  • Must be able to articulate and communicate effectively while instructing participants.
  • Must have a positive attitude and ability to work independently.
  • Must have the ability and patience to instruct classes while using effective communication and human relation skills.
  • Must have the ability to conduct, demonstrate and safely lead a classroom of adults and or children.
  • Upon hire, must complete Intro to the Ys Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You: Service with CARE.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in specialty preferred.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid preferred.
  • Get SMART preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instructing safe and effective enrichment classes.
  • Following the YMCA of the USA teaching guidelines.
  • Responsible for delivery of instructional content of class.
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.
  • Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment.
  • Takes responsibility for certain housekeeping duties.
  • Exercises sound judgment in relationship to class safety.
  • Follows all emergency procedures.
  • Engages in positive public relations with members.
  • Attend all staff meetings, in-house trainings, demonstrations and special promotions as designated by supervisor.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
  • Reports all serious incidents.
