About The Position

The Enhanced Residence Aide provides direct care, supervision, and enhanced support to residents (people receiving services) in a residential setting. In addition to core Residential Aide responsibilities, this role includes coordination of medical and healthcare services for individuals, working under the oversight of the Program Manager. The Enhanced Residence Aide supports residents in developing independence in activities of daily living (ADLs), while ensuring health, safety, and overall well-being.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Valid NY State driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier required
  • Ability to lift and assist with up to 50 pounds (including transfers and physical support)
  • Ability to assist with toileting, transfers, lifting, and physical interventions without restriction

  • Obtain and maintain required certifications, including First Aid, CPR, SCIP, and Medication Administration Certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide training and assistance to residents to develop and/or improve independent living skills such as cooking, housekeeping, laundry, and grocery shopping
  • Assist residents with personal care needs including bathing, toileting, grooming, and hygiene
  • Provide supervision to residents in the home and community to ensure safety and well-being
  • Serve as the primary in-program liaison and advocate with medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and therapists
  • Transport and accompany residents to medical appointments; provide advocacy, communication, and support during visits
  • Document and communicate medical and clinical information obtained from healthcare providers to supervisors, staff, and appropriate stakeholders
  • Collaborate with program management and nursing staff to coordinate clinical supports, including medication and medical supply management
  • Administer medications and provide healthcare services as prescribed, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and in accordance with certification requirements
  • Ensure all incidents, accidents, or concerns impacting resident health and safety are addressed and reported in accordance with OPWDD regulations and agency policies
  • Support residents in developing money management and budgeting skills
  • Assist with daily household operations and routine domestic tasks
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the residence, including common areas and resident spaces
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and within designated timeframes, including progress notes, medical logs, and reporting tools
  • Participate in assessments, service plan implementation, and interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Maintain regular communication with supervisors regarding resident health, safety, and behavioral concerns
  • Act as a positive role model when teaching household, social, and community skills
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with residents, families, medical providers, and team members
  • Follow all agency policies and procedures, including those related to safety, incident reporting, and confidentiality
  • Adhere to OPWDD regulations, including Part 633 (Consumer Rights) and Part 624 (Incident Reporting)
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and scheduled house meetings
  • Obtain and maintain required certifications, including First Aid, CPR, SCIP, and Medication Administration Certification
  • Check and respond to agency email regularly during scheduled shifts
  • Report to work as scheduled and make every effort to maintain coverage during inclement weather conditions
