About The Position

The English Teacher will be responsible for facilitating lesson objectives using a variety of materials and activities, ensuring students are engaged in instructional involvement. The role requires demonstrating a caring attitude, utilizing effective questioning and motivational strategies, and actively monitoring student learning and progress. The teacher will manage classroom behavior, maintain a positive student/teacher relationship, and comply with all school policies and procedures. This position involves working within the philosophical framework of the school board and departmental assignments, attending faculty meetings, and participating in professional development activities such as curriculum research and study groups, provided they do not negatively impact classroom work. Professional conduct, including appropriate dress and clear communication, is expected. The teacher will prepare current lesson plans accessible to substitutes, foster a friendly and cooperative attitude with all stakeholders, and share responsibility for extended school activities and school/community affairs. A key aspect of the role is demonstrating understanding and concern for students' academic and social welfare, maintaining an orderly classroom conducive to learning, and tailoring instruction to individual student capabilities. The teacher will also assist students in making up missed work, employ acceptable disciplinary methods in line with board policies, and set a positive example by avoiding prejudice. Open communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and problems is essential, as is respecting their rights and cooperating on student welfare. Maintaining high professional standards of conduct and attitude is crucial for the dignity of the profession. The teacher is encouraged to upgrade professional skills through various avenues and may accept outside employment only if it does not interfere with professional duties or negatively impact their standing.

Requirements

  • Kentucky certification in appropriate subject area.
  • Physical, TB Risk Assessment, state/national criminal background check, CAN check and drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize an appropriate variety of material and activities to facilitate the lesson objectives.
  • Concentrate on accomplishing a high rate of time on task with students where students are engaged in instructional involvement.

  • Utilize effective questioning techniques in the instructional process.
  • Incorporate effective motivational strategies in working with students.
  • Actively and continuously monitor student learning and assume responsibility for current student progress.
  • Assume responsibility for the behavior of students in the classroom and work toward a positive and productive student/teacher relationship.
  • Comply with all board and school building policies and procedures.
  • Work within the philosophical framework of the school board, building and the departmental assignments.
  • Attend all regular and special faculty meetings unless prevented by personal illness or excused by the principal.
  • Take part in curriculum research, study groups, and other activities related to the profession, ensuring these do not affect classroom work.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of professional dress.
  • Demonstrate acceptable mastery of the written and spoken word.
  • Prepare lesson plans which are directly related to the objectives being taught, ensuring they are current and available for a substitute teacher.
  • Practice a friendly and cooperative attitude with students, colleagues, parents, and superiors.
  • Assume a reasonable share of extended school activities and demonstrate a willingness to participate in school/community affairs.
  • Demonstrate and develop understanding and concern for the academic and social welfare of students.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly classroom that is conducive to learning.
  • Direct student learning at a rate which is commensurate to the capability of the student.
  • Assist students to make up work they have missed because of legitimate absences from class.
  • Use only acceptable methods of discipline in compliance with board and school policies.
  • Strive to understand all sides of a problem before administering discipline.
  • Set an example before pupils and avoid any words or actions which will show prejudice against individuals or minority groups.
  • Discuss with parents, guardians, with open mindedness and courtesy, the problems and or progress of students.
  • Respect the rights of and cooperate with parents / guardians regarding the welfare and development of students.
  • Maintain high standards of conduct and attitudes at all times so as to keep the profession respectful and dignified.
  • Take advantage of opportunities to upgrade professional skills as related to instructional improvement through committees, workshops, and organizations.
  • Accept outside employment only when it does not interfere with professional duties and when it is not detrimental to his/her status with pupils or professional colleagues.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the administration.
