About The Position

Join a group of passionate advocates on our mission to improve the lives of youth! Rite of Passage Team is hiring for a English Teacher at Southwest Leadership Academy in Phoenix, Arizona. Southwest Leadership Academy is a school students can call “home”: a school where a rigorous, relevant curriculum and a relational instruction approach are essential to high academic achievement. Students will experience success, complete their high school studies and launch into the 21st century world of higher education and employment. Paid Summers! 2026-2027 10-month contract. After 40 years of improving the lives of youth, we are looking for passionate advocates to continue the legacy of helping young people become successful adults. Requirements

  • Possesses a current and valid State teaching credential in English, Math, Science and/or Special Education
  • Have related experience working with at-risk youth
  • Have three or more years of successful classroom teaching
  • Possess a knowledge of instructional strategies and how they can be employed to deliver curriculum and assess student learning
  • Possess a knowledge of various methodologies and research related to learning and working with at-risk, high school aged youth
  • Possess a knowledge of effective classroom management techniques and behavioral management styles that result in understanding of how to manage and teach to various learning styles
  • Possess a knowledge of effective communication techniques that enable positive and productive collaboration with site staff
  • Possess a knowledge of technology and how it can be used as an educational tool
  • Be able to pass a criminal background clearance check, drug screen, physical and TB test

Responsibilities

  • Implementing and adhering to the principles of Positive Operational Culture
  • Providing instructional services to students
  • Works collaboratively with staff in a supportive fashion emphasizing a positive attitude toward students, staff and program
  • Establish a teaching rapport with students which results in student achievement in all program areas
  • Diagnose, prescribe and evaluate student progress on an ongoing basis
  • Collaborate with staff to deliver a consistent curriculum and implement a team approach to working with students
  • Confront inappropriate behavior appropriately and take the necessary action as outlined in the program procedures
  • Accept additional tasks as assigned including flexible work schedule and extracurricular assignments
