About The Position

Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School is seeking a dynamic and collaborative part-time English Teacher to join our faith-based college preparatory community. The ideal candidate will be passionate about English language arts education and embrace our college preparatory mission. This position involves teaching 2 classes on an alternating block schedule, requiring presence 2-3 days each week. This is an exciting opportunity for educators who are enthusiastic about preparing students for college, fostering critical thinking and communication skills, and contributing to a collaborative learning environment rooted in Catholic values.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in English, English Education, or a related field with significant coursework in English literature and composition.
  • Hold or be eligible for a valid teaching license, preferably with certification in English or Language Arts. If not a licensed teacher, a commitment to licensure within 3 years of employment.
  • Comfort and proficiency with educational technology and digital learning platforms.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with both students and colleagues.
  • A commitment to collaboration with faculty and students, including a willingness to grow professionally and contribute to a team environment.
  • Support for the Catholic mission of the school and a desire to model faith-based values in educational practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in English or English Education.
  • Prior teaching experience in English Language Arts.
  • Experience in a Catholic or independent school setting.
  • Familiarity with college preparatory English curriculum.
  • Experience with technology integration in the classroom.

Responsibilities

  • Foster an inclusive, respectful, and academically rigorous classroom rooted in the mission and values of a Catholic college preparatory school.
  • Teach two English classes using the school's established curriculum and materials, promoting deep understanding of literature, writing, and language arts skills.
  • Implement engaging lessons that prepare students for college-level English and develop critical thinking, analytical writing, and communication skills.
  • Utilize technology effectively to enhance instruction and engage students in digital literacy skills.
  • Encourage and mentor students in developing strong writing abilities and literary analysis skills.
  • Actively participate in departmental collaboration, including curriculum implementation and assessment practices.
  • Communicate regularly with students and parents to provide feedback and support academic growth. This includes maintaining a online grade book and Google Classroom
  • Participate in required school activities including faculty meetings and other community events as schedule allows.
  • Support the school's mission through modeling faith-based values in educational practice.
