About The Position

This position is full-time, 35 hours per week. Located in Durham, North Carolina, North Oak Academy is opened as part of the National Heritage Academies network of schools. Through a character-based approach to education, we inspire our students to excel academically and think creatively to reach their full potential. Our dedicated teachers help students apply critical-thinking skills to solve real-world problems. As a result, students are prepared to tackle 21st century challenges and excel in college, life, and beyond.

Requirements

  • Must meet state requirements for being a Title 1 paraprofessional.
  • Ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and/or mathematics.
  • Aptitude to understand and navigate technical systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills, preferred.
  • Previous experience working with English as a second language students or with school-aged children, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assess English Language Learner student abilities and provide academic intervention to scholars who are eligible for language support services in either 1:1 or group workshops as directed by the classroom teacher and academic intervention team.
  • Commit to educating the whole student – academically, morally, and socially.
  • Attend professional development and articulation meetings with classroom teachers and parents as required.
