About The Position

To provide tutoring to English Learners, helping them to gain proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing the English language. In addition to direct contact with students, responsibilities include maintaining tutor records as directed and maintaining confidentiality of all student-related documents, translating documents in other languages as needed for the district, translating during parent meetings, parent conferences, and registration. Completion of work-related projects as requested by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • An earned High School Diploma.
  • Fluency in spoken and written foreign language.
  • Experience in tutoring English Learners.
  • Experience in translating documents in foreign language using Microsoft Word.
  • Experience in working with families who speak dual languages.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both written and orally.

  • An earned Bachelor’s Degree (A) or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Communicates clearly both orally and in writing to parents and school personnel.
  • Recognize variations in student backgrounds, abilities, and learning styles.
  • Interact in a friendly and patient manner with students from different cultural backgrounds, students of all levels of language proficiency, and students who may have disabilities.
  • Present English clearly and serve as a linguistic model for students.
  • Communicate effectively with students by articulating clearly, selecting vocabulary, and assessing comprehension by carrying methods.
  • Tutor English learners in all language skill areas.
  • Expand grammar in an easy-to-understand format without overwhelming student learners.
  • Work cooperatively with teachers and principals to identify and solve problems, facilitate learning for students, and build student confidence.
  • Guide students to completion of work without doing the work for them.
  • Assist teachers in compiling and maintaining records of achievement and progress for each student.
  • Assist in gathering data for reporting requirements.
  • Establish and maintain communication with parents of students in the EL program.
  • Provide accurate services by translating documents orally and in writing and translating during parent meetings, conferences, and registration.
  • Submit translating parent questionnaire in a timely manner.
  • Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with all personnel.
  • Performs general clerical functions including maintaining accurate records and compiling information and statistics.
  • Plans and organizes work to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Maintains a tutoring schedule for all tutoring sites.
  • Learn and apply applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations as well as administrative and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned and directed by the principal or director.
