About The Position

The California Virtual Academies (a network of 9 public charter schools) delivers online/virtual home based instruction to TK-12 students in California. English Language Development (ELD) specialists meet with students throughout the week in virtual classrooms to provide standards-based targeted instruction based on the CA ELD Standards that meet the language needs of the students, as well as support students in content area coursework, provide additional one-to-one support, and provide curriculum support to homeroom and content teachers. ELD specialists build lasting relationships with their students through consistent outreach throughout the school year and monitor attendance and engagement. Additionally, ELD specialists provide interventions as needed to ensure students remain engaged and grow academically. ELD specialists’ caseloads are generally made up of either elementary (K-5), middle school (6-8), or high school (9-12) students. ELD specialists are required to connect virtually with students once per quarter at minimum and attend one in-person event each quarter. All ELD specialists are required to proctor state testing.
