About The Position

The English Language Development (ELD) Teacher will play a critical role in advancing Multilingual learners’ (MLLs) knowledge and use of English, focusing on the successful use of academic language necessary to accelerate their learning. The primary service delivery model is co-taught, integrating language development into core academic subjects or science classrooms. Depending on the campus and grade level, teachers may co-teach in Science, English/Composition, or other content areas, or teach small-group, dedicated ELD classes differentiated by English language proficiency. All instruction emphasizes language as a tool for accessing rigorous content, fostering critical thinking, and preparing students for postsecondary success.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in any field.
Demonstrated content knowledge (known as in-field status) via various qualifications.

Nice To Haves

Proven commitment to and experience with serving students of color, students with disabilities, and/or multilingual students.
A Colorado teaching credential is preferred but not required for most opportunities.
Active teaching license (including out of state) with a Culturally Linguistically Diverse Educator, English Language Learner Professional Endorsement, active certification in TEFL/TESOL/CELTA, or similar certification.

Responsibilities

Plan/co-plan, intellectually prepare, and teach/co-teach rigorous grade level aligned content to 3-5 classes daily.
Utilize DSST’s curriculum resources, prioritizing curriculum that centers the cultures and histories of underrepresented and marginalized communities.
Monitor and assess the performance of all students through a variety of assessment tools and resources to guide instruction and support individual student proficiency.
Employ DSST culture and support systems while validating students’ cultural identities.
Actively promote a unified and positive classroom and school culture.
Cultivate and maintain trusting relationships with students and families.
Engage in professional growth opportunities, including regular coaching, feedback, and development, with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Undertake additional duties as needed, such as supporting student recruitment, running a small group advisory class, after school tutoring, etc.
