About The Position

The Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP), sponsored by the New York State Education Department and St. John's University, supports high school students with college potential by providing services to help them succeed in secondary school and pursue higher education. These services include tutoring, counseling, mentoring, developmental courses, and social/enrichment activities. The ELA Teacher will provide instruction and tutorial services in English Language Arts for the LPP, focusing on academic skill development, motivation, and personal growth.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in education.
  • State certification or college teaching experience.
  • Three years of teaching experience at the secondary or collegiate level.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards and Common Core.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate youth.
  • Deep-rooted passion for serving students and helping them achieve their goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide academic instruction and tutoring in English Language Arts (ELA).
  • Prepare students for the NYS Regents and college application essays.
  • Manage SAT prep and homework assistance.
  • Assist students in preparing for college transition, including personal statements.
  • Collaborate with High School Liaisons and school personnel to design and implement academic interventions.
  • Assist in coordinating tutorial services, conducting tutorial training, and supervising tutorial staff.
  • Exhibit strong classroom management skills to facilitate learning for all students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director.
