About The Position

Teachers are responsible for providing direct instruction to students and maintaining an environment conducive to learning. This role supports the mission and value of education within Joplin Schools. The teacher will enforce Board policies and regulations, administrative procedures, and state and federal laws. They must supervise students, obey safety rules, and care for school property. Maintaining courteous and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the public is essential. Effective communication, excellent customer service, and compliance with privacy rights are expected. The teacher should react productively to change, receive constructive criticism, and actively participate in professional development. All official business must be conducted professionally and in a timely manner, utilizing district technology. Punctuality for work and meetings is required. Accurate record-keeping and filing systems are necessary for accountability. Problem-solving using math functions and interpreting documents like work orders and handbooks are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
  • Move around the classroom
  • Read handwritten or printed material
  • Regular and consistent attendance

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction to students
  • Create and implement a classroom disciplinary plan
  • Create lesson plans and activities to implement and supplement instruction
  • Participate in building, grade level and subject area committees
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Maintain accurate student records including attendance, grades and discipline
  • Complete and submit forms and required reports in a timely manner
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and other educational concerns
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, discrimination and harassments as directed by Board policy
  • Prepare lesson plans for use by a substitute teacher
  • Carry out all other duties as assigned
