About The Position

This position is for an English & Language Arts Teacher at WHS, with terms of employment for 194 or 196 days, depending on experience within WCSD. The role requires a valid State of Iowa teaching license with a 5-12 English Language Arts endorsement and previous classroom teaching experience at the 10-12th grade levels. Key performance criteria include creating and maintaining healthy relationships with students, demonstrating competence with specific principles for grading and assessment, and showing flexibility, motivation, and enthusiasm when working with high school learners. The teacher will also demonstrate an understanding of Professional Learning Community (PLC) principles and the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students, including differentiating instruction for diverse learners. Experience with multiple teaching methods such as co-teaching, collaborating, whole/small group, and individualized instruction is expected. A commitment to ongoing professional growth and development, adherence to the Iowa Professional Development Standards and Iowa Teaching Standards, and an understanding and ability to implement the RtI/MTSS process are also crucial. The role involves maintaining accurate grades, providing feedback, and serving as a WHS student advisor.

Requirements

  • Valid State of Iowa teaching license.
  • 5-12 English Language Arts endorsement.
  • Previous classroom teaching experience at the 10-12th grade levels.
  • Belief in, experience with, and ability to demonstrate competence with principles for grading and assessment: Differentiation of instruction & assessment is necessary for students to grow and progress, Multiple data points are used to determine the summative grade, Course grades accurately communicate only academic achievement of the standards, Independent practice is meaningful, purposeful, and tied to standards, Students are given multiple opportunities to show proficiency through ongoing assessment.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and be able to apply that understanding to a team situation.
  • Understand and apply in professional practice the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students, highlighted by a commitment to: differentiating instruction for learners, meeting the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations.
  • Understand and experience in using multiple teaching methods: co-teaching, collaborating, whole/small group and individualized instruction.
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards as the foundation from which to build that ongoing growth plan.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to implement the RtI/MTSS process.
  • Articulate oral and written communications.
