About The Position

This position is for an English/Language Arts Teacher at NWHS. The terms of employment are for 194 or 196 days, depending on experience within WCSD. The role requires a valid State of Iowa teaching license with a 5-12 English Language Arts endorsement. Previous classroom teaching experience at the 10-12th grade levels is preferred. Key performance criteria include creating and maintaining healthy relationships with students, demonstrating competence with specific principles for grading and assessment (differentiation, multiple data points, focus on academic achievement, meaningful independent practice, and multiple opportunities for demonstrating proficiency), flexibility, high motivation and enthusiasm, understanding and application of Professional Learning Community (PLC) principles, understanding and application of the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students (including differentiation and meeting diverse learner needs), experience with various teaching methods (co-teaching, collaborating, whole/small group, individualized instruction), commitment to ongoing professional growth aligned with Iowa Professional Development Standards and Iowa Teaching Standards, understanding and implementation of the RtI/MTSS process, strong oral and written communication skills, serving as a WHS student advisor, and maintaining accurate and timely grades with measurable feedback.

Requirements

  • Valid State of Iowa teaching license.
  • 5-12 English Language Arts endorsement.
  • Ability to create and maintain healthy relationships with students.
  • Belief in, experience with, and ability to demonstrate competence with principles for grading and assessment: Differentiation of instruction & assessment, multiple data points for summative grade, course grades accurately communicate only academic achievement of the standards, independent practice is meaningful, purposeful, and tied to standards, students are given multiple opportunities to show proficiency through ongoing assessment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, high levels of motivation and enthusiasm when working with high school learners.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and be able to apply that understanding to a team situation.
  • Understand and apply in professional practice the Waukee Framework for Meeting the Needs of All Students, highlighted by a commitment to: differentiating instruction for learners, meeting the needs of diverse learners, including all special populations.
  • Understand and experience in using multiple teaching methods: co-teaching, collaborating, whole/small group and individualized instruction.
  • Commit to ongoing professional growth and development as described in the Iowa Professional Development Standards and support of the Iowa Teaching Standards.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to implement the RtI/MTSS process.
  • Articulate oral and written communications.
  • Serve and meet the expectations for being a WHS student advisor.
  • Maintain accurate and timely grades and provide measurable and adequate feedback on student work.
