About The Position

Millbrook School seeks an English teacher beginning in the fall of 2026. This position can be structured as either part-time or full-time depending on the schedule you can commit to. Full-time teaching responsibilities will include three sections of English III and one section of an upperform English elective. Candidates should be prepared to teach students of all high school age levels. Prior teaching experience is preferred. B.A. in English or a related field is required. Millbrook’s English department emphasizes skill development and serious engagement with literature through critical reading, analytical and creative writing, and discussion. The primary goal of a teaching faculty member is to ensure that each student achieves the highest potential possible. Energy for adolescents, adaptability, humor, and integrity are the hallmarks of Millbrook's faculty. Full-time faculty members are also expected to participate in two seasons of coaching or the equivalent, community service, evening responsibilities, activities, assemblies, attend required meetings and workshops, and serve as an advisor for up to six students. Housing may be provided and would include residential life duties. The salary range for a full-time position is $42,000-$90,000, and $30,000-$38,000 for part-time. The salary range for part-time roles is pro-rated, and the exact salary will be determined based on the final agreed-upon weekly schedule and workload requirements. When determining placement in the salary range, Millbrook School considers the percentage of a full-time role, total teaching experience, number of years working at Millbrook School, and other factors permitted by law. We require our teachers to hold a bachelor’s degree in the subject being taught or a related field and strong communication skills; we prefer teachers to have teaching and coaching experience. A full-time teaching faculty position consists of teaching four sections (or the equivalent), coaching or supervising an afternoon program for two out of three seasons, and serving as an advisor for up to six students. Full-time faculty members are also expected to participate in community service, evening responsibilities, activities, and assemblies, and to attend required meetings and workshops. Requirements

B.A. in English or a related field is required.
Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
Must have strong oral and written communication skills.
Must have strong computer skills.
Faculty members must have a clean & valid driver’s license.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
Must have the ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
Must have patience, tact, and enthusiasm when dealing with personnel, students, and families.
Must be proficient in the composition of written communication.
Must function independently and be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.

Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must be able to work in person, on campus.
Must be flexible and willing to adapt to new technology, teaching methods, and/or schedules.
Must be able to physically teach, coach, advise, attend meetings, and be an active member of residential life.
Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move equipment, supplies, etc., without restrictions.
If coaching, must be willing & able to travel & attend sporting events on nights and weekends.
Faculty members must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Responsibilities

Teach four sections of a subject (or the equivalent)
Coach two seasons (or the equivalent)
Advise or assist in community service.
Attend assemblies on designated mornings throughout the school year.
Faculty who live in housing provided by the school will have an evening responsibility.
All faculty support our weekend programming for assigned weekends.
All faculty are expected to have between one and six advisees per year, to communicate regularly with advisees’ families, and to write three advisor letters for each over the course of the year. The advisor is the primary resource for a student and their parents or guardians, acts as a mentor, and shepherds the student’s growth over their time at Millbrook. Advisors meet weekly with advisees on Tuesdays during alternating seated lunches and meeting times and schedule additional time as needed. Advisors must be in regular contact with the parents or guardians and keep them informed of their child’s progress. Advisors should also communicate proactively with colleagues about their advisee.
Share in all other boarding school responsibilities including extra help, assembly, formal dinner, department meetings, faculty meetings, orientation programs, award assemblies, trustee and parent weekends, workshops, and additional duties as determined.
All faculty are also expected to assist with opening days, winter weekend, and commencement weekend.
