About The Position

Bring your energy to the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and help strengthen Pennsylvania's landscapes! We are looking for an Engineering Technician who wants to support meaningful environmental work. This role provides the opportunity to take part in survey projects that help prevent hazards and protect public spaces. It is well suited for someone who enjoys being outdoors and solving practical problems. Join DEP and help move important projects forward! This position supports survey operations that help address mining-related environmental challenges across the state. The work contributes to important projects involving mine drainage, mine fires, reclamation, and subsidence concerns.

Requirements

  • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology. Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the use of total stations, theodolites, transits, levels, and similar tools to gather survey data
  • Operate high accuracy geospatial radios, receivers, controllers, and base stations
  • Use survey software to produce reports and compute coordinates, elevations, angles, and distances
  • Record, calculate, and check field notes for accuracy
  • Visit county courthouses to obtain ownership records, deed descriptions, and related project information
  • Maintain and store survey equipment in proper working order
