About The Position

We are seeking an Engineering Technician I or II – Optical Integration to support optical alignment, integration, and test activities for spacecraft and ground support equipment the position is in Greenbelt, MD.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Ability to follow technical procedures, drawings, and engineering instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and ability to work in precision-based environments.
  • Must be able to work in team settings with engineers and technicians under supervision.
  • Willingness to complete required certifications including cleanroom access, laser safety, cryogenic safety, and aerial platform operation.

Nice To Haves

  • associate degree or technical training in engineering technology, optics, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in optical integration, metrology, aerospace testing, or laboratory environments.
  • Familiarity with optical instruments, laser systems, or coordinate measurement tools is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical inspection tools, wiring, or electronics preferred.
  • Experience working in cleanroom or aerospace test facility environments desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Support optical alignment, integration, and metrology operations for spacecraft and scientific instruments.
  • Assist engineers and senior technicians in setup, operation, and execution of optical test activities.
  • Operate and learn to configure optical instruments and laser-based metrology systems, including laser trackers and Spatial Analyzer.
  • Support calibration, maintenance, and tracking of optical equipment and ensure proper documentation in calibration databases.
  • Assist in cryogenic testing activities, including dewar operations and optical measurements under cryogenic conditions.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of laboratory and cleanroom environments.
  • Perform mechanical inspection and support use of optical instruments such as theodolites, autocollimators, and alignment telescopes.
  • Support safe operation of lasers (Class 1–3, and trained Class 4 systems) and metrology equipment.
  • Follow technical procedures, engineering drawings, and work instructions to complete assigned tasks.
  • Participate in equipment handling, logistics, and general lab support activities as needed.
