About The Position

This position is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of public infrastructure and construction projects within the public right-of-way. The role involves inspecting streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and related improvements to verify adherence to City specifications as well as State and Federal regulations. Responsibilities include reviewing design plans for constructability and traffic safety, conducting preconstruction meetings, managing schedules and contract timelines, negotiating change orders, and processing pay applications. The role also requires preparing contract documents, evaluating field conditions, and ensuring compliance with approved plans and permits. In addition, the position supports transportation and infrastructure planning efforts by collecting and analyzing field data, evaluating pavement conditions, prioritizing maintenance needs, and contributing to capital improvement planning and budgeting. The incumbent may conduct traffic studies, review and approve traffic control plans, and ensure safe and efficient traffic flow through work zones. Strong communication is essential, as this role regularly interacts with contractors, residents, and public agencies, providing updates, addressing concerns, and maintaining transparency throughout project lifecycles.

Requirements

  • Engineering Technician I: Some experience in construction inspections, surveying, soils and materials testing or related experience in civil engineering, surveying, and/or construction inspection preferred.
  • Engineering Technician II: Five (5) years of experience in project management, construction inspections, surveying, soils and materials testing or related experience in civil engineering, surveying, and/or construction inspection.
  • Engineering Technician III: Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in project management, construction inspections, surveying, soils and materials testing or related experience in civil engineering, surveying, construction inspection, and training in field of traffic operations.
  • Requires CDOT Inspection Certification (math, survey, plan reading); Asphalt Paving, Soils and Embankment Concrete. Construction Engineer
  • Engineering Technician III requires Certifications for Traffic Control and Signs and Markings.
  • Pavement management software.

Nice To Haves

  • Engineering Technician I: Training – High School Diploma or GED
  • Engineering Technician II: Associates Degree in Civil Engineering or certification in related area preferred; AutoCAD/ LDD/ Civil 3D experience preferred.
  • Engineering Technician III: Associates Degree in Civil Engineering or related field required; AutoCAD/ LDD/ Civil 3D experience preferred.
  • Engineering Technician III: Traffic Control Supervisor Certification
