About The Position

WSP’s Houston, TX office is seeking an experienced Engineering Technician to support a major construction project. In this role, you will perform a variety of field and laboratory testing activities, helping ensure that construction materials and site conditions meet project specifications, quality standards, and regulatory requirements. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of geotechnical testing experience.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites and arrive prior to scheduled testing activities.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate, and well-documented reports.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings, weekends, or other schedules as project demands require.
  • Satisfactory driving record in accordance with WSP’s Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) policy.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.

Nice To Haves

  • Current ACI, NICET, and/or ICC certifications.
  • Experience working on large-scale transportation, infrastructure, or commercial construction projects.
  • Familiarity with industry testing standards and quality assurance procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine field sampling, inspection, and testing of soils under general supervision.
  • Conduct laboratory testing of soil, concrete, and asphalt materials in accordance with established procedures, industry standards, and project specifications.
  • Calibrate, maintain, and operate testing equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Prepare, review, and submit accurate, complete, and timely daily testing reports in compliance with established quality assurance and quality control procedures.
  • Review project plans, specifications, drawings, and general notes prior to conducting testing activities to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Analyze testing results and perform calculations to verify the accuracy, applicability, and reasonableness of collected data.
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with client representatives, including project managers, engineers, supervisors, and foremen, to provide testing updates and address project needs.
  • Support project teams by ensuring materials and construction activities meet established quality and performance standards.
