About The Position

The Engineering Technician assists professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians with materials testing and office duties in a District Lab. The position is located in the District 03/Unit 153, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and reports directly to the Engineering Technician Supervisor. The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to perform duties with minimal supervision, and able to interpret unforeseen conditions. The incumbent participates in appropriate DOTD structured training and attends continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to perform required tasks. This career progression position may be filled at the Engineering Technician 1, 2, 3, or 4 level.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED, or six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.
Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision and interpret unforeseen conditions.

Responsibilities

Test and sample materials in the field.
Use state procedures to perform materials testing accurately.
Use statewide computer programs to record test results.
Operate sophisticated laboratory equipment properly and safely.
Perform equipment calibrations and standardizations.
Assist professional engineers and/or higher-level technicians with materials testing and office duties.
Participate in appropriate DOTD training and attend necessary continuing education classes and conferences.
