About The Position

At Leidos, we are seeking an Engineering Technician to join our diverse and fast-paced organization in Greensboro, NC. As a core team member, you will interact with other electric utility disciplines, performing field inspections, engineering design work, and calculations. Your responsibilities will include coordinating with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and 3rd party owners for joint-owned poles. Additionally, you will provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure compliance with engineering and construction standards, and conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design. Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent and 1-2 years of relevant experience OR AA Degree in GIS or Engineering technology or GIS Certificate and 1-2 years of experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments.
  • Ability to utilize personal vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of NESC Standards and Client Standards preferred.
  • Overnight travel may be required (10-20% travel).

Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections and engineering design work.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, specifying conductor sags and tensions for recommended spans, and calculation of voltage drop and flicker.
  • Coordinate with permit agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field leaders, forestry leaders, and 3rd party owners for joint-owned poles.
  • Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure all applicable engineering and construction standards have been met.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
  • Travel to sites as needed.
  • Review work of other Engineers.
