Engineering Technician V - NMPH - Rice Creek/Fridley, MN (Onsite)

MedtronicFridley, MN
$82,400 - $123,600Onsite

About The Position

This role supports the Neuromodulation and Pelvic Health (NMPH) Manufacturing Engineering organization, with a focus on Joining Technologies and Pilot Process Development. The team develops and scales manufacturing processes used to support next-generation implantable medical devices, partnering across engineering, design, manufacturing, and process development functions to advance products from feasibility through manufacturing transfer. The position provides broad technical support across multiple manufacturing technologies, equipment platforms, and process-development laboratories rather than specializing in a single process area. This is an onsite position based in Fridley, MN. Travel up to 25% is expected, including periodic travel to manufacturing partners and transfer locations in support of manufacturing process transfer activities. As an Engineering Technician V, you will serve as a hands-on technical resource supporting manufacturing process development, engineering builds, equipment and tooling solutions, and manufacturing transfer activities. Working closely with engineers and cross-functional partners, you will help transform early-stage manufacturing concepts into practical, repeatable processes through prototyping, troubleshooting, experimentation, documentation, and technical support.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of hands-on technical experience supporting manufacturing, engineering development, precision assembly, equipment, prototyping, or related technical environments.
  • Experience troubleshooting and improving manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, precision assemblies, and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, work instructions, and technical documentation and utilize common measurement and fabrication tools.
  • Experience collecting, documenting, and communicating build, process, or experimental data to support engineering and manufacturing activities.
  • Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers, and technical stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree, Associate degree, or apprenticeship with significant relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience supporting implantable medical devices, miniature components, precision assemblies, or other high-reliability manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with manufacturing process development, pilot production, new product introduction, manufacturing transfer, or production ramp activities.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM, mechanical design, fixture design, tooling development, or modification of manufacturing equipment and assembly aids.
  • Knowledge of machining, fabrication, welding, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, automation, robotics, motion systems, sensors, or machine vision technologies.
  • Experience applying Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), error-proofing (poka-yoke), root cause analysis, Lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of precision assembly and manufacturing processes for implantable medical device components and assemblies.
  • Partner with engineers to prototype, build, test, troubleshoot, and improve manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures, and assembly methods.
  • Set up, operate, modify, and troubleshoot manufacturing and laboratory equipment, electromechanical systems, and prototype tooling.
  • Execute engineering and feasibility builds, including material coordination, build readiness activities, data collection, issue resolution, and documentation of results.
  • Develop and implement tooling, fixtures, gauges, nests, assembly aids, and other manufacturing solutions to improve process performance and repeatability.
  • Support engineering experiments through hands-on build execution, measurement, data collection, structured troubleshooting, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Create process documentation, operating instructions, visual work aids, and training materials to support process maturation and knowledge transfer.
  • Collaborate with internal and external manufacturing partners to support pilot builds, process transfers, troubleshooting, and training activities.
