North Wind Services (NWS) is seeking individuals to support the Department of Energy's missions within science, technology, and engineering fields. This role is part of a supplemental labor team at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in Livermore, CA, specifically supporting the National Ignition Facility (NIF), the world's largest and most energetic laser facility. The position involves performing detailed inspections of large optical components used in critical operations. The primary responsibilities include inspecting finished and uncoated optics for surface flaws and contamination, documenting defects, reviewing specifications, creating inspection maps, and generating Nonconformance Reports (NCRs). The role requires a highly observant technician to evaluate optical surfaces for imperfections such as scratches, digs, stains, haze, inclusions, cracks, and edge chips. Inspections are conducted in a Class 100 cleanroom and dark-room environment using specialized equipment. The successful candidate will work closely with production, engineering, and supervision to ensure optics meet requirements and will maintain inspection documentation, support quality investigations, and communicate findings clearly. As NIF is a 24/7 operational facility, this position may require flexibility to work overtime, shifts, and weekends, potentially including alternate schedules like 4/10 or evening shifts. Successful candidates will be employees of NWS and will be required to pass on-site training and obtain a Q-Level Security Clearance through the Department of Energy.
