About The Position

The Presidio Trust is seeking an Engineering Technician (Transportation) to join it's Planning and Compliance Department. The Presidio Trust is an innovative federal agency responsible for preserving and sharing the Presidioa 1,500-acre national park site at the Golden Gate that blends rich history, cultural significance, and extraordinary natural beauty. Once a military post under three flags and the ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone, the Presidio is now one of the most biologically diverse parks in the nation and a vibrant destination with beaches, museums, trails, homes, and workplaces. Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the Transportation Engineering Technician performs a wide range of technical and analytical assignments supporting transportation projects, infrastructure management, and data systems that advance the development and management of a safe and sustainable transportation network for all modes in the Presidio. Our ideal candidate enjoys using their technical skills to solve problems both in the office and in the park. You like using data to tell a story and take pride in optimizing systems. This is a full-time four-year fixed term position with benefits, and a starting salary range of $68,439 to $80,421, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Th e starting base salary is dependent on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. This position is included in a bargaining unit, specifically The Laborers International Union of North America, Local 792, United Public Employees of California. Requirements

  • High-school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented by at least one year of directly related college-level coursework in engineering, construction management or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive responsibility in construction, transportation or engineering-related work.
  • Familiarity with civil engineering and transportation engineering principles and applicable standards and guidelines, such as accessibility standards

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD and ArcGIS.
  • Valid California Drivers License
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze engineering data and recommend solutions,
  • Experience with traffic monitoring systems, speed studies, or transportation data collection methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical assignments involving multiple engineering processes and methods; analyze project requirements and field conditions, adapt standard procedures as needed, and recommend improvements to practices and workflows.
  • Extract, validate and analyze data from a variety of sources, applying knowledge of data reliability and integrity. Identify and report errors, inconsistencies, and gaps; conduct quality assurance reviews of electronic datasets and technical records; and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare technical documentation for assigned projects, including project reports, analyses and recommendations. Determine appropriate formats for presenting engineering data to support internal decision-making and project planning.
  • Maintain records and provide technical findings to engineers and supervisor. Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of transportation data systems. Ensure data and records are accurate, current and properly maintained.
  • Operate, inspect, test, calibrate, and troubleshoot technical instruments and measurement devices. Evaluate results and recommend adjustments or modifications to testing procedures to improve accuracy, reliability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Install, maintain and verify performance of traffic monitoring equipment and related infrastructure, including portable traffic counters and speed measurement devices, and electric vehicle charging stations. Collect, validate, and analyze traffic speed, volume and operational data.
  • Conduct detailed field measurements, including slopes, horizontal and vertical dimensions to verify compliance with accessibility standards. Document findings and provide recommendations to engineers and supervisor.
  • Conduct periodic inspections of traffic counters, electric vehicle charging stations and other equipment to ensure proper operation and functionality.
  • Prepare and modify technical drawings in AutoCAD, including roadway or trail cross-sections alignments, and layouts that illustrate grades, dimensions, tolerances, and cross-references compliance with industry technical standards.
  • Review and interpret design drawings, project specifications and traffic control plans to ensure compliance with Presidio Trust standards, accessibility requirements, and applicable codes. Evaluate contractor-submitted traffic control plans submitted by contractors for compliance with Presidio Trust guidelines and CA MUTCD.
  • Calculate and tabulate construction material quantities. Perform quality assurance checks on preliminary and final estimates; and assist in developing cost projections for transportation engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors, engineers and other staff to support project implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Assist in developing engineering cost estimates.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
