About The Position

The Hydroelectric Department is seeking a skilled and motivated Engineering Technician Senior – Electrical Engineering to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of hydroelectric generation facilities. This role is critical in assisting with engineering design, preparing and maintaining technical drawings, specifications, and estimates related to electrical facilities and plant equipment. The position supports hydroelectric maintenance projects, equipment upgrades, regulatory inspections, and capital improvements. Responsibilities include ensuring drawings conform to District standards and industry codes, performing detailed inspections of completed work, and coordinating with various stakeholders to schedule work and address technical challenges. The role also involves maintaining accurate records of plant assets, electrical systems, and maintenance activities.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, mathematics, economics, or a related field.
  • Three years of responsible experience performing duties equivalent to an Engineering Technician - Electrical II.
  • Thorough knowledge of fundamentals of electricity.
  • Thorough knowledge of mathematics as applied to computation in power systems including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable codes and industry practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of drafting and electrical engineering methods and when to apply them.
  • Thorough knowledge of nomenclature, symbols, methods, practices, techniques, and instruments used in engineering, mapping, and construction.
  • Ability to perform and coordinate engineering-related activities with other District administrations, departments, and divisions, and with outside agencies and customers.
  • Ability to plan and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to supervise assigned technical staff.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to demonstrate good customer relations and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
  • Possession of an appropriate California driver’s license.
  • Must file a Statement of Economic Interest in compliance with Governmental Code Section 81000.
  • Sign & Acknowledge a Confidentiality Agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering design and related drawings, specifications, and estimates for electrical facilities.
  • Ensure that drawings conform to District regulations and standards.
  • Inspect completed projects for conformance to drawings, and applicable codes, standards, regulations, laws, and practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and drawings of all District facilities.
  • Coordinate completion of jobs between other departments and customers (job scheduling).
  • Provide technical support to field supervisors or other departments when questions or problems arise.
  • Provide technical support and assistance to technicians and other areas within the District.
  • Comply with and enforce all District rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
