This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. These “solid-state” laser crystals are used in products ranging from medical lasers to military laser systems. The Charlotte facility has been operating for over 60 years in the laser industry and has developed the reputation of providing the highest quality products with timely deliveries. Within the facility, solid-state oxide and fluoride crystals are grown from a high-temperature melt. SYNOPTICS has full optical fabrication capabilities for various plano and spherical geometries. In this job, you will: Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks and will be expected to learn the basics of the Thin Film Deposition process. Support the manufacturing operation with on-the-floor presence. Able to operate all deposition equipment for testing and production. Performs routine maintenance on coating and measurement equipment. Qualify coatings, model, and reverse engineering of deposited films from measured spectra. Monitor and evaluate critical process parameters through yield analysis and run reviews. Create, or update area documentation as needed. Interpret engineering prints to ensure specific deliverables are met. Generate process improvements and solve technical issues in timely manner using accepted problem-solving techniques and sound engineering practices. Provide appropriate test data and reports to Management Team. Communicate quality concerns to management or supervision in a timely manner

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
  • No clearance required to start
  • Must be detail oriented, self-motivated, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and willingness to learn
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Ability to work with small parts - visual acuity and manual dexterity skills are required
  • Analytical thought process; data-driven and results-oriented
  • Regular, punctual attendance is required as well as overtime and shift flexibility when required

Nice To Haves

  • AS/AAS in Photonics, or Optical Systems Technology, or Electronic/Electrical Engineering Technology preferred, Or, two years of experience with optical coating processes, deposition software and equipment.
  • Optical metrology experience is strongly preferred.
  • Two years of experience in the fabrication, operation, and troubleshooting of instruments, controls, mechanical, and thermal systems, etc.
