About The Position

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform advanced technical engineering, inspections, and supervisory work in the field and office. Employees direct and oversee the inspection of construction projects by private contractors involving city rights-of-way, streets, subdivision and storm water system and are responsible for environmental groundwater and stormwater sampling for the City of Montgomery. The work responsibilities involve supervising full‑time employees, reviewing plans, and conducting detailed inspections of construction projects such as subdivisions, drainage systems, bridges, and other public works structures to ensure compliance with safety codes, specifications, and regulatory standards. Work involves administering and monitoring stormwater, floodplain, and environmental programs; investigating unlawful discharges; evaluating erosion and sediment control; and maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local requirements including ADEM and FAA regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or a GED.
  • At least six (6) years of engineering experience, including reviewing construction site plans and the inspection of construction sites or environmental groundwater/ water sampling.
  • Two (2) years’ experience supervising lower-level Engineering Technicians.
  • Valid Driver’s License and insurable driving record.
  • Willingness to work nights or weekends as needed to meet deadlines or prepare and complete special projects.
