About The Position

The Hardware Reliability Engineering team at Medtronic’s Tempe Campus supports semiconductor and hybrid manufacturing operations by maintaining and improving the tooling, fixturing, test hardware, and instrumentation used throughout production. This team plays a critical role in ensuring manufacturing equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enable efficient, high-quality device production. This position is based in Tempe, Arizona and requires onsite work five days per week to support manufacturing operations and equipment maintenance activities. As a Hardware Reliability Engineering Technician IV, you will support manufacturing operations through the maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of tooling, fixturing, probe cards, burn-in boards, and electronic test hardware. This role works closely with manufacturing, engineering, suppliers, and equipment owners to improve hardware reliability, diagnose failures, and ensure production equipment remains operational and available.

Requirements

  • Requires advanced knowledge of systems, techniques, tools, and procedures typically obtained through prior related work experience, training, and/or education.
  • Requires 5+ years of relevant technical experience, which may include a combination of practical experience and applicable training, education, or certification.
  • No minimum education requirement.
  • Ability to use microscopes and precision tools requiring fine motor dexterity, including tweezers, soldering irons, and other handheld tools.
  • Demonstrated experience using laboratory test equipment including digital voltmeters (DVMs), power supplies, and oscilloscopes.
  • Ability to read and work from schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal technical instructions.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of wafer probe manufacturing processes and associated test hardware.
  • Experience maintaining tooling, fixturing, and electronic hardware used in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug, adjust, repair, and solder tooling, fixturing, and test hardware assemblies.
  • Experience operating metrology systems and flying probe inspection equipment.
  • Experience using Indysoft computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), Jira, Confluence, and Spotfire.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and validate probe cards and test hardware used in wafer probe operations.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on burn-in boards and associated hardware used in hybrid manufacturing processes.
  • Diagnose instrumentation and test system hardware failures, coordinate repairs, and verify operational performance following corrective actions.
  • Operate metrology equipment to inspect, evaluate, and characterize tooling, fixturing, probe cards, and electronic hardware.
  • Develop and maintain metrology recipes and document test results, inspection data, and maintenance activities.
  • Debug and evaluate hardware performance on metrology systems and wafer autoprobers to identify root causes of failures.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance the reliability and maintainability of tooling, fixturing, and hardware used in manufacturing.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with suppliers and provide training and technical guidance on specialized tooling, fixturing, and hardware maintenance activities.
