About The Position

The Engineering Technician III conducts product and component performance, application and reliability tests in a laboratory environment to confirm design and customer specifications are met. This individual is responsible for setting up and conducting these tests in a safe and efficient manner while ensuring collection and reporting data is accurate, reliable and repeatable. In addition, this individual will provide input and suggestions on potential design improvements identified during the testing process. Requirements

  • Capability to set up and run mechanical and/or electrical performance, application and reliability tests required to validate new designs and optimize those that already exist.
  • Very safety conscious and capable of working in a laboratory environment.
  • Good listening, communication and technical comprehension skills are required.
  • Two year technical degree or related experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical, electronic or mechanical product testing.
  • High degree of safety consciousness.
  • Aptitude and interest in applying electrical measuring and data capture devices to evaluate product performance.
  • Ability to operate as a member of a lab or product development team.
  • Excellent comprehension of verbal and written test instructions.
  • Flexibility to conduct multiple tests in parallel.
  • Ability to use laboratory tracking systems and Document / Project Data Management System.
  • Experience creating and maintaining Job Instruction Bulletins (JIB) & Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Ability to lead a sub-lab.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience completing electric motor testing using Dynamometers.
  • Experience conducting Dielectric Strength Testing / High Potential testing (Hipot) on electric motors.
  • Licensed forklift operator license.
  • PCBa level soldering experience.
  • Maintain large scale calibration certifications via software packages.
  • Proficient in electrical wiring up to 575 volts.
  • Experience making and applying thermocouples.
  • Proficient in outdoor water pump plumbing.
  • Capable of maintaining computer network or computers not tied to network.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct testing and record data in accordance with product development team requests.
  • Set up and execute product performance/agency accreditation tests on Torque Tables and Dynamometers.
  • Set up and execute application specific testing on Load Stands and in Thermal Chambers.
  • Conduct all energy efficiency and safety agency tests according to required procedures.
  • Define Reliability testing campaigns to meet critical market reliability targets with high levels of confidence, to include product layout, data monitoring and PLC configuration as applicable to ensure safe testing.
  • Make note of and share design improvement suggestions based on testing observations.
  • Ensure all electrical and other safety certifications required are maintained and up to date.
  • Safely dispose of all materials (lubricant, pumping fluids, etc.) after testing has been completed.
  • Contribute to the writing and content of job safety instructions for commonly performed tests and procedures.
  • Train and mentor new Lab Technician hires in standard test set-up and run procedures.
