About The Position

The Engineering Technician III reports to the Program Manager and will perform assignments that directly and indirectly support system installation and integration on board US Coast Guard Boats and Cutters. Receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed; performs recurring work independently; Performs at this level or a combination of such typical duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen and possess or be able to obtain/maintain a SECRET clearance.
  • High School diploma, 3 years’ experience in US Coast Guard or US Navy C4I system installation integration support, US Coast Guard preferred.
  • Or US Coast Guard or Navy “C” or “A” school, 3-year experience in US Coast Guard or US Navy C4I system installation integration support, US Coast Guard preferred.
  • Must be highly organized and have excellent oral and written communication skills in order to interface with personnel and other government agencies at all levels.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret Engineering Drawings.
  • Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of Microsoft applications (MS Word, PowerPoint). Solid Excel experience is a must.
  • DoD Secret or higher security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.

Nice To Haves

  • NavSea Cableway and/or connector certification are desired but not required.
  • Experience with Cable Fabrication (Multi-pin, RF, Network, Power, Fiber, Mil-spec, or serial cable assemblies).
  • Proficiency in operation of warehouse equipment to include pallet jacks and forklifts.

Responsibilities

  • Performs installation/removal/upgrades for electrical/electronic/C4I tasks (i.e. wiring of terminal boxes, testing and verifying connections, meggering cables, testing and troubleshooting, etc.).
  • Performs system testing to evaluate performance and functionality with supervision.
  • Operates tools to aid in fabricating, installing, removing, and upgrading tasks.
  • Uses drawings, technical manuals, instructions, standards, and specifications to perform system installation/removal/upgrade activities.
  • Under supervision Perform cableways, connectors (trainee), fire watch, confined space, and may have some special quals (i.e.: Fiber Handler, Shipyard Competent Person, Paint sampling, etc.).
  • Read and interpret installation drawings and cable run sheets with assistance.
  • Fabricate various connectors by soldering and/or crimping for navigation, communication and power equipment.
  • Constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment. May troubleshoot and correct malfunctions.
  • Follows specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Lead crew or mentor junior staff under general supervision.
  • Analyze data and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Conducts various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; selects, sets up, and operates standard test equipment and records test data.
