About The Position

This position is responsible for the layout, inspection, and documentation of minor to intermediate sized construction projects or assisting the Resident Engineer on major construction projects. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire Resident Technicians/Inspectors. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR Six years of engineering experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • Requires districtwide travel.
  • Certain provisions of the revolving door restrictions contained in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 apply to this position. As a result, the employee should be aware that if offered non-State employment during state employment or within one year immediately after ending State employment, the employee shall, prior to accepting any such non-State employment offer, notify the Office of the Executive Inspector General for the Agencies of the Illinois Governor (OEIG) or may be subject to a fine.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and directs the operations of an assigned construction project within a specific geographical area.
  • Coordinates pertinent and timely information about assigned construction projects with the Resident Technician or next level supervisor as appropriate.
  • Ensures that documentation and records are complete to facilitate timely acceptance of the project.
  • Ensures that proper traffic control measures are being used.
  • Provides proper and effective utilization of manpower through training and motivation of employees.
  • Resolves differing viewpoints arising from construction activities, contract provisions, or public complaints.

  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
