Requirements

• Associate’s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or a related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two (2) years of progressive technician level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Proficiency in record keeping.
• Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards present on construction sites including traffic, heights, weather extremes, and traversing rough/uneven terrain.
• Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner, both orally and in writing.
• Proficiency using computers and electronic tablets.
• Must be able to perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
• Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing and inspection duties.
• Selected candidate will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with construction surveying and knowledge of surveying methods and procedures is preferred.
• Experience with contract administration
• Knowledge in understanding contracts, plans, standards and specifications
• Experience in performing inspection, sampling, and testing of materials (concrete, asphalt density) to ensure compliance with NCDOT specifications
• Working knowledge of computer equipment, (I-pads, desktop), software (HiCams and Share Point) and mathematical functions
• Working knowledge of pay record book entries and material received reports

Responsibilities

• Support higher level technicians and engineers in administering construction contracts via construction inspection and, if needed, stakeout.
• Serve as lead project inspector on small to intermediate-sized projects as needed.
• Perform standardized and non–standardized tests of various materials for acceptance in accordance with contract documents and incorporated specifications and requirements.
• Assist in supervision of lower-level technicians and CEI personnel.
• Help in the coordination of work assignments.
• Write diaries and reports on project operations.
• Complete various material reports.
• Document pay records.
• Perform construction calculations.
• Computer/iPad entry of reports/data.
• Apply Department safety program to operations.
• Make independent decisions using sound engineering judgment.
• Perform moderate physical activity such as walking, climbing, kneeling, and standing.
• Lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
• Obtain and maintain certifications required to perform material sampling and testing and inspection duties.
• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as necessary and as operations require.
