Under general supervision, performs sub-professional engineering work in the office and field including drafting, acts as survey party chief, and routine calculating and does related work as required. Examples of duties and responsibilities include performing and completing a variety of engineering and construction related items. Essential functions may include performing drafting and mapping assignments using manual or computer aided methods, performing survey work including measuring distances and elevations with appropriate surveying equipment, receiving and researching inquiries regarding property records, maps, plans, and legal descriptions, and reviewing submittals for parcel maps, final maps, lot line adjustment and lot mergers. The role also involves copying data, preparing notices, scanning maps into the computer system, performing field inspections for private and public projects regarding water, sewer, storm and rod infrastructure to verify conformance with applicable codes, assisting with preparing estimates for sewer connections, sewer charges and extension costs, gathering samples and performing routine tests on construction materials, and assisting with and performing inspections of construction projects to verify compliance with specifications and plans. Additionally, the position involves drafting construction plans from notes, sketches, and verbal instructions, plotting cross-connections, templates, and profiles, preparing charts, diagrams, and visual displays, preparing real property maps, assisting with the preparation of job plans and specifications for a variety of projects, estimating cost of public right-of-way work, issuing permits, providing fee estimates for developers, performing plan checks and field reviews for public improvements in commercial and single-family projects, performing a variety of additional engineering office and field support work, serving as the Airport Commission and Airport Field Based Operations liaison, identifying traffic and parking problems by investigating safety complaints and conducting field surveys and analysis, summarizing results for management review, assisting the Public Works department with planning, organizing, and managing the inspection, enforcement, pollution prevention, monitoring, and data management activities of the Storm Water Program, reviewing encroachment permits, material submittments, and traffic control plans, assisting in updating the pavement management system, and providing daily logs, weather reports, and assisting with construction management of capital improvement projects. Other duties may be assigned.
