About The Position

The Engineering Technician II is responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance throughout the hotel to ensure the property, equipment, guest rooms, and public areas are maintained in excellent working condition. This position requires hands-on hotel or facilities maintenance experience and the ability to independently troubleshoot and complete a variety of repairs involving HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance. The Engineering Technician II responds promptly to guest and operational maintenance requests while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, guest service, and preventive maintenance.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of hotel, commercial building, apartment, facilities, or similar maintenance experience preferred.
  • Previous hotel engineering or maintenance experience strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot common maintenance problems and complete repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to read and understand equipment instructions, safety procedures, and work orders.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a safe and well-maintained property.
  • Strong guest service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be dependable and able to respond appropriately to urgent maintenance situations.
  • HVAC/EPA certification or other relevant maintenance certifications are a plus.
  • Valid driver's license may be required based on operational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs in guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and hotel facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair HVAC equipment, including PTAC units and other hotel heating and cooling systems.
  • Perform basic to intermediate electrical repairs, including outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, breakers, and related equipment within the scope of the position.
  • Perform plumbing repairs, including toilets, faucets, sinks, drains, valves, fixtures, and minor leaks.
  • Complete general carpentry, drywall, painting, caulking, tile, hardware, door, lock, and furniture repairs.
  • Diagnose maintenance issues and determine the appropriate repair or corrective action.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest room maintenance requests and service calls.
  • Complete assigned preventive maintenance inspections and document completed work accurately.
  • Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of hotel mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Inspect guest rooms and hotel areas to identify maintenance concerns before they become larger repair issues.
  • Maintain engineering tools, equipment, storage areas, and workspaces in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), chemicals, tools, ladders, and equipment.
  • Assist with emergency maintenance situations as needed.
  • Communicate unresolved or significant maintenance concerns promptly to the Chief Engineer or hotel leadership.
  • Coordinate professionally with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food & Beverage, and other hotel departments to minimize disruption to guests and operations.
  • Assist with vendor access and repairs when directed by the Chief Engineer.
  • Maintain accurate records of work orders, preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Follow hotel, StepStone Hospitality, Marriott, OSHA, and applicable safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
