About The Position

This posting is for an Engineering Technician I position in the Winston-Salem Construction 2 Resident Engineer’s Office. This position performs technical duties, while supporting engineers and other professionals in areas such as construction inspection, materials testing, project surveying, and program/regulatory compliance. Work functions may include inspection for compliance with contract documents, standards, and specifications, testing of materials, review of plans, analysis of engineering related data, and construction surveying/layout. Daily duties will include composing diaries of project operations, completing various material reports, performing construction calculations, documenting pay records, and computer/iPad entry. This position will also assist in all aspects of office engineering and assist the Resident Engineer.

Requirements

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers, contractors, and the general public.
  • Ability to work safely in both office and outside environments with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
  • Must be able to perform moderate physical activity including but not limited to walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, standing, and able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to work nights, weekends, as required, for projects assigned to within the Division.
  • Must apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
  • Employee will be subject to emergency callback and inclement weather.
  • Ability to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle preferred.
  • Safety toe shoes are required.
  • Successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
