About The Position

Under the direction of Engineering staff and the Technician Supervisor, the Engineering Technician supports the assembly and testing of spaceflight cryocoolers, including Stirling engines. This role involves hands-on work with technical documentation, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and execution of assigned technical tasks.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or relevant technical training required
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience or equivalent technical training
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment, processes, and safety requirements
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Ability to use precision measurement tools, including calipers, OD/ID micrometers, multimeters, thermocouple meters, and oscilloscopes
  • Experience using hand and power tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, Dremel tools)
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Strong attention to detail, particularly in precision assembly and maintaining defect-free hardware
  • Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment with a focus on hardware integrity
  • Ability to follow instructions and processes precisely, efficiently, and in a timely manner
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting and sharing technical information

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and process components, subassemblies, and Stirling engines for aerospace production under the direction of engineering and senior technicians
  • Complete assigned tasks according to the engine build schedule
  • Follow detailed procedures and protocols required for clean environments supporting spaceflight hardware
  • Prepare test hardware and equipment to support testing of spaceflight engines in line with customer performance requirements
  • Perform characterization testing to evaluate engine performance
  • Document and communicate test data and results through accurate written records and verbal updates
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records in logbooks
  • Provide input on assembly and testing processes based on observed data and performance characteristics
  • Support documentation efforts related to technical procedures and technology transfer
  • Interface with engineering, drafting, and machine shop personnel to complete assigned tasks
  • Participate in engineering and project meetings as required
  • Contribute to customer communication through documentation and technical input
  • Participate in lessons-learned activities to improve spaceflight engine processes
  • Continuously develop skills through training, education, mentoring, and on-the-job learning
  • Travel within the United States as needed to oversee subassembly processing and support hardware delivery or customer integration and acceptance
