This role is for a detail-oriented Mechanical Lab Technician to join the engineering team, playing a critical role in testing, validating, and improving product performance. The technician will work alongside Design, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineers to support product development through mechanical and hydro testing, data analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers and technicians.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly document and communicate testing observations and results.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Comfortable working in a laboratory and testing environment with various mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Associate degree, technical diploma, or equivalent post-secondary education in Mechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a mechanical testing, laboratory, manufacturing, product development, or engineering support environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using precision measurement tools and laboratory instrumentation preferred.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Execute mechanical and performance testing for new and existing products using established test procedures and standards.
  • Set up, configure, and operate test equipment, fixtures, and instrumentation to support development and validation activities.
  • Test production components and prototypes to evaluate functionality, reliability, and performance.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineers and cross-functional teams to investigate product performance and support development projects.
  • Accurately document test results, observations, and conclusions in technical reports and engineering databases.
  • Analyze and verify test data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and repeatability.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, specifications, and test plans.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, scales, and microscopes for product inspection and evaluation.
  • Support calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve testing methods, laboratory equipment, safety practices, and overall lab efficiency.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities and contribute to a safe, organized laboratory environment.
