About The Position

This role provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. The Engineering Technician 4 will gather, maintain, format, compile, and manipulate technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. They will produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). The position involves performing detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. The role requires using a personal computer in the performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. The technician may conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis. Primary job functions specific to this position include supporting Control Inspections annually with in-field support, managing backlogs by monitoring SAP inputs, providing direction, and closing out projects. The role also involves optimizing workflow by directing work assignments of consultants and contractors to ensure shipyard facilities are maintained in a safe condition, providing field support for trades and contractors, and supporting docking evolutions by providing onsite technical support as needed to continue operations. Additionally, the position requires coordinating and executing annual flood drills to meet the requirements of the Mil-STD-1625 requirements, serving as a mentor for younger technicians within the O41 Plant Engineering organization, and creating technical direction and supporting trades and contractors on site during maintenance and repair of the facilities. The role also entails collaborating and providing technical rigor to facility systems such as railways, transporters, tugboats, barges, and piers, and performing technical evaluations, conducting infrastructure assessments, and responding to emergent safety-related issues in a fast-paced, large industrial facility setting. The position provides in-field technical support to engineers, planners, and contractors to repair graving docks, critical equipment, and the floating dry dock, utilizing acquired experience to support repairs and quality assurance verifications for critical equipment. The role manages backlog to coordinate, plan, and execute repairs, modifications, and upgrades with contractors and trades, and assesses mechanical, hydraulic, and structural deficiencies and plans repairs with cognizant engineers.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
