About The Position

This Engineering Technician 4 (Electrical) position is within the E50 Propulsion & Reactor Engineering Planning Yard, specifically the Steam Plant Manual (SPM) Group. The role provides technical support to engineers on a variety of tasks, including gathering, maintaining, formatting, compiling, and manipulating technical data. The technician will produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics), and perform detailed mathematical calculations and preliminary data analyses. They will use personal computers for analyses and documentation development and may conduct tests to assist with engineering evaluation. A4W propulsion plant operating and maintenance experience is required, with equivalent experience considered on a case-by-case basis.

Requirements

Associate's Degree and 6 years of relevant experience
NNS Apprentice School graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience (may be used as equivalent to Associate's Degree)
A4W propulsion plant operating and maintenance experience

Nice To Haves

Completion of Naval Nuclear Power Pipeline (Nuclear Electrician Field ‘A’ School, Naval Nuclear Power School, and Naval Nuclear Prototype Training)
8 years of experience operating the propulsion plants aboard aircraft carriers
Senior in Rate Qualified
Propulsion Plant Watch Supervisor/Propulsions Plant Watch Officer qualification

Ability to obtain and retain partial radiation worker qualification
Ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.

Responsibilities

Research the descriptive and operational impact of modernization and repair alterations to the propulsion plants on Nimitz Class Aircraft Carriers by gathering/reviewing technical documentation, coordinating with engineering codes, and performing shipchecks.
Evaluate the validity of in-coming Manual Change Requests (MCRs) to the CVN68 Class Steam Plant Manual (SPM) by applying knowledge of propulsion plant operations, reviewing historical SPM documents/drawings, and performing/directing engineering evaluations/studies.
Review SPM chapters and operating instructions to identify opportunities for improvement.
Generate MCR technical change packages using knowledge of the SPM, research, and technical writing skills to ensure safe and efficient propulsion plant operations and provide a tool for Ship’s Force training, adhering to established standards for style and format.
Work with drafting and interactive electronic technical manual (IETM) experts to develop SPM revisions and assist in quality assurance checks of out-going SPM revisions.
