About The Position

This position provides engineering cognizance and technical support for NNS low voltage electrical and controls systems. The O41 Controls Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the controls systems and software for complex equipment and machinery, utility infrastructure, building operating systems, and submarine delivery/transportation systems. The RoleProvides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as laboratory or material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
  • NNS Apprentice School graduate
  • Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
  • High School/GED and 2 years of related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience
  • High School/GED and 4 years of non-related Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within assigned system(s)
  • Provide technical direction to maintenance personnel team to support routine and non-routine equipment repair work
  • Maintain configuration control of PLC programs for NNS systems and equipment
  • Produce and/or oversee the development of technical documentation that govern the system design, configuration, and operation of NNS controls systems
  • Participate in project design and implementation process for system related projects
  • Develop a long-range strategic plan for controls improvements for assigned systems and equipment
  • Develop and maintain critical system metrics
  • Develop and maintain technical training for junior engineers and controls technicians
  • Oversee project/system testing to ensure system meets technical requirements and operates at peak performance
